What is critical illness insurance?

Critical and serious illness comes with additional costs. A critical illness insurance policy will cover expenses for the treatment of serious and critical illnesses like cancer, high risk heart disease, paralysis, major organ failure, etc and also for any major surgery. Typically, these policies would come at a higher premium.

How does it work?

This means that the insurance company has agreed to make a lump sum payment to you in the unhappy event that you are diagnosed with a critical illness. The illness needs to be included in what the policy covers. This amount can be used to pay for different non hospitalization expenses related to critical illness like specialized treatment, recuperation aids, etc.

Why should you take critical illness insurance

Your ordinary health insurance policy will cover costs related to hospitalization A critical illness policytakes care of the additional treatment costs related to serious illness and has a wide scope as it includes up to 20 illnesses. Most companies offer critical illness cover for a period of 1 – 5 years which gives you ample coverage for a longer duration. It is a very good way to supplement your health insurance portfolio.
